My name is Mariam Bennouna,
I'm 40 years old, originally from Morocco, living in London with my husband and my son.
I've been diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's disease since I was 28, it was a turning point in my life.
It all started with a stiffness in my right arm, which I have considered as a fatigue or stress consequence. But since I felt that the stiffness was reaching my right leg, I visited my neurologist who confirmed to me the diagnosis.
It was such a shock when the only thing you know about Parkinson is that it's the ''elderly people kind-of disease''. But thanks to my mental strength, my positive attitude and my resilience, I accepted it and I learnt to adapt my life around my symptoms.
Today, most of my family members and friends tell me that they don't even feel that I have Parkinson's, except when my symptoms are very visible (which generally happens once or twice a day for a few minutes). I’ll share with you what I look like with my worst symptoms in my next post!
It is true that Parkinson disease is a degenerative disease that has no cure yet, but it is not a death sentence, and certainly not yours neither.
Share with me your story if you have been diagnosed as well at a young age. Get in touch with me if you need my help.
